The Chiyoda City Tourism Association is releasing the 'Sanno Matsuri Guide' website, summarizing the appeal and highlights of the Sanno Matsuri, held at Hie Shrine from June 7 (Sun) to June 17 (Wed), 2026. A 'Sanno Matsuri Highlight Map' will also be published on June 2 (Tue) to provide festival routes.
This year is a special biennial 'Main Festival' year, featuring the Shinko-sai parade—the highlight of Sanno Matsuri. Approximately 500 people in dynastic costumes will parade through about 23km of the city center, transforming the usual business district into a one-day historical scene.
'Sanno Matsuri Guide' Website Over 11 days starting June 7, various rites and events will take place. Addressing visitor inquiries about where to watch, the association has launched the guide to provide a clear overview of festival highlights, parade routes, and passing times, along with recommended sightseeing spots in the Chiyoda area.
About Sanno Matsuri Sanno Matsuri is the annual grand festival of Hie Shrine in Nagatacho, Chiyoda, counting among the 'Three Great Festivals of Japan' and the 'Three Great Festivals of Edo.' 2026 is the biennial main festival year for Sanno Matsuri.
The Biennial 'Shinko-sai' About 500 people in dynastic attire, accompanied by portable shrines and floats, will march in a 300-meter-long procession through central Tokyo. The route takes them through the National Theatre, Imperial Palace, Marunouchi, Ginza, and Nihonbashi. Date: June 12 (Fri), 8:00–18:00
