Okinawa's natural coastlines are threatened by development, marine debris, and the abnormal growth of invasive weeds. Uza Beach in Yomitan Village, a precious nesting site for sea turtles, is currently facing encroachment by weeds. In response, a cleanup and weeding event will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Participation is free, and no prior registration is required. Participants are asked to bring tools such as shovels, rakes, work gloves, and drinks, and gather near the public restrooms. The organizer, 'Chura-Mura Okinawa Coastal Conservation,' aims to preserve the beautiful beach for future generations through local efforts and welcomes families to join. The event is held in conjunction with the Ministry of the Environment's 'Marine Debris Zero Week' to foster a culture of protecting local seas.
