The Yame Junior Chamber Inc. is implementing a project called "Machi-Tori: Aim Your Lens at the Charms of Our Region," as part of its 2026 Regional Development Committee initiatives, to rediscover and promote the charms of the local area through video.
In this project, teams composed of local organizations and high school students from the Yame and Hirokawa regions will produce vertical videos, each under one minute long, with the theme of "the charms of our town."
An video production workshop was held on May 31, and each team has been proceeding with filming and editing since June. The completed videos are scheduled to be screened at a video presentation event to be held on August 30, 2026 (Sun) in the Exhibition Grand Hall of the Hirokawa Town Industrial Exhibition Center.
The theme this time is not limited to famous spots that might appear in tourist brochures. It will capture the charms of nature, townscapes, local activities, and the people and scenery known only to those who live there, all from the participants' own perspectives.
During the workshop, participants learned the basics of video production from professional instructors while developing their ideas for conveying the "charms of our town" that they wish to communicate.
Each team's storyboards and project proposals show where they will focus their lenses in the region, reflecting their unique perspectives.
One team is proceeding with a plan to turn everyday scenes of the region into a dramatic narrative. Another team is focusing on Yame's traditions and considering how to convey them through video.
What kind of videos will be created when the camera is turned towards the region from the perspective of its residents...
The completed works will be unveiled on August 30.
Background of the Event
The Yame region is blessed with diverse charms, including a rich natural environment, history, industry, and culture.
However, it also faces challenges such as a declining population and waning interest in the region, as its charms are not fully recognized or promoted.
Compared to text and photographs, video is more intuitive and easily conveys information, and its spread through social media is also expected to be significant. Therefore, this project was planned to provide an opportunity for local organizations and younger generations to learn video production and promote the charms of their towns from their own perspectives.
We hope that the videos created from various viewpoints will foster greater affection for their hometowns among local residents and inspire those from outside the region to want to visit.

Features of the Project
1. Local residents themselves plan, film, and edit.
This project is characterized by videos being produced from the perspective of the people who live in and are involved with the region, rather than being solely captured by external creators.
2. Aiming for communication suited to the SNS era with vertical videos under one minute.
The videos produced will be vertical videos under one minute in length. They will express the charms of the region in a format that is easily accessible to younger generations, keeping in mind smartphone viewing and social media dissemination.
3. Videos will be released on the official municipal YouTube channel after the presentation event.
The works screened at the video presentation event on August 30 are scheduled to be released on the official YouTube channels of both cities and towns. By disseminating them widely both within and outside the region, beyond just the venue presentation, we aim to deliver the charms of the Yame and Hirokawa regions to a larger audience.
