On May 21, 2026, the Okuhida Onsen-kyo Tourism Association held an unveiling ceremony for the 'Okuhida Mountain Bus,' now in its second year, amidst the breathtaking scenery of the Northern Alps. Starting tomorrow, May 22, the bus will run for three weeks until June 12, offering tours of the lush mountain scenery accompanied by handmade guides and announcements created by local children and residents.
Bookings for this year are strong, currently at approximately 200% of last year's figures. Amidst concerns regarding rising fuel costs and extreme summer heat, we are promoting a style of tourism where visitors leave their cars behind, share a single bus, and enjoy the cooling winds at altitudes of over 1,000m.
[Feature 1: Stunning 360-Degree Views from an Open-Top Bus] The main attraction is the view of the Northern Alps from the open-top chassis. Passengers can look up at the wide sky and snow-capped peaks without any obstruction as they pass through tunnels of fresh green trees. It is an experience that allows visitors to feel the cool wind and forest fragrance, fully immersing themselves in Okuhida's majestic nature.
[Feature 2: Enjoy Student Announcements, Illustrated Maps, and Quizzes] Onboard, passengers are welcomed by announcements made by local elementary school students. The children have also prepared quizzes and illustrated maps. This experience, created through the cooperation of adults and children, focuses on conveying the warmth of the local community—something digital guides cannot replicate.
[Feature 3: A New Style of 'Busventure' Where Transit Becomes an Attraction] 'Busventure' combines 'Bus' and 'Adventure.' This tour is not just a means of transportation but entertainment that heightens the senses. Staff from 'KAI Okuhida' will accompany passengers as travel guides, turning the ride itself into an adventurous experience with special tools and items.
