The Japan Dance Studio Association 'GRID' (Representative: Gen Iwahana) will hold its inauguration event on May 29, 2026, at THE HALL YOKOHAMA in the Minato Mirai area of Yokohama.
In contemporary society, where AI technology is rapidly evolving, the meaning of human-to-human communication and what it means to be human are being questioned. While translation AI reduces language barriers and generative AI affects work and creative activities, we believe that the value of self-expression, individuality, and real human connection is becoming more important than ever.
Against this backdrop, the Japan Dance Studio Association 'GRID' focuses on the inherent potential of dance. Dance is not merely a competition; it is an extremely human communication culture that allows people to express themselves through the body, connect with others beyond language, and recognize each other.
We define dance as 'social infrastructure' with multifaceted values, including sports, entertainment, art, education, welfare, health, regional community, non-verbal communication, and self-expression. While the dance industry is currently gaining attention due to its Olympic inclusion and the development of professional leagues, we believe the diverse potential of dance—beyond just 'skill' or 'winning and losing'—has not been fully communicated to society.
Being able to express 'oneself' regardless of age, disability, gender, or nationality is the true value of dance and a power needed in future society.
Currently, dance studios across the country operate individually, making it difficult for companies and local governments to collaborate. By connecting individual studios into a 'surface' rather than 'points,' we will implement the potential of dance into society in areas such as education, welfare, health, and community development. 'GRID' will function as the infrastructure that connects these 'points.'
We aim to create an environment where the entire dance industry can develop sustainably, focusing on initiatives such as improving self-esteem, creating intergenerational communication, expanding participation opportunities for people with disabilities and the elderly, building local communities, next-generation education, and co-creation with companies and governments.
