<Intensive Communication Period to Transform Climate Change from a "Distant Problem" to a "Personal Issue">

The summer of 2025 recorded the highest average temperature since records began, with emergency transports due to heatstroke exceeding 100,000. With the establishment of "Extreme Heat Days" in 2026, rising temperatures are having a serious impact on our lives year by year.

Meanwhile, even as the scientific link between rising temperatures and climate change becomes clearer, the connection between daily experiences of heat and climate change has not yet been fully established as a societal understanding. Therefore, we are holding the "Week to End the Too Hot Summer" as a platform for intensive communication during this period when we feel the heat most acutely.

Three Key Points of This Announcement:

1. Flagship Event (August 7)

Key figures will gather at Shibuya Solasta.

Numerous new findings will be announced, including the "Weather Forecast for 2050 (Ver. 2)" which vividly depicts the future of climate change.

2. Intensive Communication of Diverse Voices During the Hot Season

Stakeholders affected by climate change, such as those in agriculture, sports, and business, will intensively communicate their personal connection to climate change during the period.

3. Installation of a Symbol Board

A symbol board for the campaign will be installed at an undisclosed location in Tokyo (details to be announced later). The "Untouchable High Temperature Index" will also be displayed to communicate the relationship between temperature and global warming.

Background and Purpose - Why This Week Now?

The average temperature in the summer of 2025 (June-August) was +2.36°C higher than the average year, setting a record high since statistics began. Recent hot summers have affected all aspects of life, from restrictions on children's outdoor play and club activities, cancellation of summer festivals, increased health risks for outdoor workers, to the impact on agricultural product prices. Scientists and the United Nations are issuing strong warnings that the situation will worsen if greenhouse gas emissions continue at current levels.

What is the "Week to End the Too Hot Summer"?

To make climate change a "personal issue" for each of us, we have determined that it is important to think about climate change during the hottest period of the year. As an opportunity for this, we registered August 8th as "Day to End the Too Hot Summer" (registered in 2025, led by JCLP). Starting in 2026, we aim to develop this commemorative day with many supporting organizations into the "Week to End the Too Hot Summer," with the goal of "collectively communicating about climate change as a personal issue at the same time."
