Background: The 'Language Barrier' in Asakusa Tourism
According to the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), the total number of international visitors to Japan from January to April 2026 reached approximately 14.37 million, exceeding 14 million for two consecutive years during the same period (*1). With the increasing number of visitors, the absolute number of travelers falling ill during their trips is also rising.
Asakusa, one of Japan’s most iconic tourist destinations, welcomes many international visitors every day. However, when visitors fall ill in an unfamiliar environment, language barriers often prevent them from accessing appropriate medical care. While some medical facilities in Asakusa offer foreign language support, limitations in specialties, supported languages, and operating days mean that multilingual options for sudden health issues during travel remain insufficient.
Sakura International Clinic Tokyo in Daimon, the group’s first clinic, has treated thousands of international patients to date. Drawing on this experience, we aim to create an environment where international visitors can access high-quality medical care with peace of mind in emergencies. Driven by our desire to support Asakusa’s tourism infrastructure through healthcare, we have decided to open this clinic.

Statement from the Operating Representative
Takahiro Higashi, Representative Director, General Incorporated Association SIG
Following our first clinic in Daimon (Sakura International Clinic Tokyo), we are proud to open our second location, Japan International Clinic Asakusa, in Asakusa—one of Japan’s most iconic tourist destinations.
At our Tokyo clinic, we have treated thousands of international patients. Each time a patient arrives with a tense expression and leaves with a relieved smile after receiving care in their native language, I deeply feel the significance of our clinic.
While the number of international visitors continues to grow, medical systems that allow people to seek care without worrying about language barriers remain insufficient. In Asakusa, a destination that welcomes people from around the world, we aim to deliver 'peace of mind' that transcends language, serving as a bridge between Japan and the world. We are committed to contributing, through healthcare, to building a society where every visitor feels, 'I’m glad I came to Japan.'
