Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is developing and commercializing 'AdBio®', a system that efficiently sorts and recovers biomass such as food waste and paper from municipal solid waste to enable stable biogas recovery in methane fermentation systems. Recently, the technology was evaluated as being at a practical level by the Japan Environmental Sanitation Center's waste treatment technology verification project. Since recovered biogas is widely used as renewable energy for electricity, heat, and fuel, high-efficiency recovery is essential for a circular economy. AdBio® has been recognized for improving biomass sorting efficiency and methane fermentation decomposition rates, leading to increased biogas production and operational stability. For municipal waste, AdBio® is expected to increase biogas production by approximately 40% compared to conventional crushing and sorting methods. Furthermore, it can utilize diverse raw materials like agricultural waste. The system can be installed in both new and existing facilities, supporting efficient green energy creation.
