The 'Chubu Japan Digital Twin Initiative' (Representative Director: Takami Yasuda, Special Vice President and Professor at Kinjo Gakuin University) held its launch commemorative seminar on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

The event was conducted in a hybrid format, hosted at Nagoya Innovators Garage (Naka-ku, Nagoya City) and streamed online. A total of 63 attendees participated in person and 63 joined online.

The seminar opened with welcoming remarks by Representative Director Takami Yasuda.

The event began with an opening address from Representative Director Yasuda. Greetings were also delivered by Aichi Prefectural Governor Hideaki Omura and Dr. Seiichi Matsuo, President of the National Institutes of Natural Sciences, who serves as an advisor to the initiative. The closing remarks were given by Professor Yasuyuki Yanagida, President of the Virtual Reality Society of Japan and Professor at the Faculty of Information Engineering, Meijo University, also serving as an advisor.

Observers including Mr. Hidenobu Teramura, Director of the Chubu Economic Industry Bureau, and Mr. Hiroshi Masuyama, Director of the Tokai General Communications Bureau, also attended, marking a strong start for the initiative’s future activities.

Keynote Speeches

Keynote lectures were delivered by Dassault Systèmes K.K., a global leader in digital twin technology, and Capgemini K.K., a global systems integrator.

【Lecture 1】"Transforming Manufacturing Innovation with Virtual Twins"

Mr. Tagakura introduced the concept of "Virtual Twin," which enables the digital replication of products, production processes, and entire factories, allowing for scenario-based validation under scientific and physical conditions. He focused on the latest initiatives and case studies using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

He highlighted advancements in design and manufacturing validation in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, and energy, as well as sustainability simulations, illustrating the potential of next-generation manufacturing. He emphasized the initiative’s role in enhancing the competitiveness of the Chubu region, a major hub for manufacturing industries.

【Lecture 2】"The Essence of Digital Twins – Essential Mindsets and the Value of Implementation"

Speaker: Capgemini K.K.

Executive Officer / Head of Engineering R&D Business, Taichiro Kumagai

Mr. Kumagai explained the importance of correctly understanding the core value of digital twins and establishing a clear roadmap from implementation to on-site adoption to ensure success.

Drawing on the company’s extensive global implementation cases and success factors, he provided practical insights for advancing digital twin initiatives from the perspective of a comprehensive technology firm capable of integrating diverse technology stacks.

Background and Future Activities of the Chubu Japan Digital Twin Initiative

The initiative aims to promote understanding and broaden the adoption of digital twin technology among manufacturing companies in the Chubu region (Aichi, Gifu, Mie, Shizuoka, and Nagano prefectures)—one of the world’s leading manufacturing clusters—through neutral collaboration among industry, academia, and government.

The initiative plans to sequentially organize events, case study presentations, and talent development programs targeting manufacturing professionals, DX department staff, and representatives from local governments and universities in the Chubu region.
