Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (HQ: Minato-ku, Tokyo) will exhibit its newly developed functional material, 'vibration-powered single crystal,' at AXIA EXPO 2026 - Smart Factory Exhibition, held from Wednesday, June 3, at Aichi Sky Expo (Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture), and at Smart Sensing 2026, held from Wednesday, June 10, at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto-ku, Tokyo).
These single crystals, an iron-gallium alloy, are magnetostrictive materials capable of converting vibrations into electrical power or changing magnetic fields into voltage signals. Through vibration power generation, the material secures the power necessary for device operation, showing promise for applications in remote monitoring and predictive maintenance using battery-less IoT sensors. At the exhibitions, the company will showcase demo units of vibration power generation devices and application examples using vibration sensors to explore new uses and find co-creation partners.
Sumitomo Metal Mining is actively engaged in 'X-MINING,' an initiative aimed at co-creating value that makes a social impact by combining their own products with the ideas of partners working together on problem-solving. The company intends to continue deepening dialogues with diverse stakeholders, invigorating X-MINING activities, and striving to create new value.
