Act Beyond Trust (abt) (Location: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Jun Hoshikawa) will hold the dialogue event "1st beyond ecology FORUM -- Thinking Together About the Future Beyond Ecology: What can civil society and corporations do for a future with life?" on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. This hybrid event, held both in-person and online, will bring together participants from diverse backgrounds, including corporate representatives, NPOs/NGOs, researchers, and students, to consider a sustainable future.

In recent years, environmental issues such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, and pollution have become increasingly serious. These are intricately intertwined with social issues like inequality, poverty, health concerns, and the decline of local communities. In such times, it is crucial to view environmental issues not as isolated problems but in relation to society, the economy, and justice.

With this awareness, abt has adopted "beyond ecology" as its concept for its activities in fiscal year 2026. This represents a new perspective for considering the future of society from the intersection of "society x environment x justice." This forum is held as a platform for sharing this concept widely and fostering dialogue among diverse stakeholders.

Background of the Event

Even within corporations, as efforts towards decarbonization and sustainability advance, the question is no longer just about environmental measures, but how to contribute to the sustainability of society as a whole.

Since its establishment in 2010, abt has supported citizen initiatives in areas such as environmental conservation, sustainable food and agriculture, energy transition, and citizen exchange in East Asia. To date, it has provided 248 grants totaling approximately 282 million yen.

This forum will provide a space for civil society and corporations to engage in dialogue beyond their respective positions and consider together what can be done for a "future with life."
