About the Kansai Global Health (KGH) Gathering

The KGH Gathering was launched to provide a platform for open and free discussion on global health issues from diverse perspectives. Participation is free and open to all.

Purpose of This Year’s KGH Gathering

At the 70th UN General Assembly in 2015, when the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted, they were named 'The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – Transforming Our World.' The preamble includes the pledge: 'As we embark on this great collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind. We will reach the furthest behind first' (provisional translation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

Disparities are not only between countries but also within the same nation, where economic, geographical, and social differences directly translate into disparities in life and health. The core message behind the SDGs is that such unjust inequalities, which are unacceptable worldwide, necessitate 'transforming our world.'

This year’s KGH Gathering focuses on domestic challenges in Japan, sharing the current situation of people who face difficulties accessing healthcare due to language or social background differences, and discussing concrete initiatives to protect lives and health.

The Japan WHO Association serves as a fund-distributing organization for JANPIA’s (Japan NGO Platform on International Cooperation) dormant bank account fund utilization project, 'Healthcare for All Foreigners – No One Left Behind.' In collaboration with three selected implementing organizations, it aims to create a society where people can access healthcare services safely at medical institutions regardless of language or nationality.

This year’s KGH events, under the theme 'An Inclusive Society Where No One Is Left Behind,' have invited representatives from the three implementing organizations to speak in turn on 'Protecting the Lives and Health of Foreign-Origin Individuals with Limited Japanese Proficiency,' followed by panel discussions. This event will be the final session.
