Will for Japan, a public interest incorporated foundation aiming to make legacy giving a culture (Headquarters: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Miki Miura), has been selected as a grant recipient for the second quarter of 2026 by the US-Japan Foundation, which promotes social impact through US-Japan collaboration. Moving forward, the organizations will work together to promote legacy giving, including the 'Free Wills Campaign,' which subsidizes the costs of creating wills. The background to this initiative is the issue of asset concentration among the elderly due to the declining birthrate and aging population. In Japan, 50 trillion yen is inherited annually, but much of it remains within elderly households. Legacy giving is an effective means of circulating these assets to future generations and social contribution organizations. Haruto Okabe, Japan Representative of the US-Japan Foundation, highly values the potential of legacy giving in fostering a culture of philanthropy in Japan. Through this collaboration, Will for Japan aims to realize a society where more people can naturally choose legacy giving.
