The JR West Anshin Foundation is holding its 2026 'Life' Essay Contest to encourage students to reflect on the importance of life. Eligible participants are elementary and junior high school students living or studying in the Kinki region (Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, and Wakayama prefectures). Submissions are open from July 1 to September 11, 2026. Essays must be written on 400-character sheets, with length guidelines by grade: 1-2 pages for grades 1-4, 1-3 pages for grades 5-6, and 2-4 pages for junior high students. Submissions are primarily school-based, though individual entries are also accepted. A selection committee consisting of Shozo Kikuchi, Kiyoshi Shigematsu, and Yoko Fujioka will judge the submissions. Winners will receive certificates and book cards, with results announced in December 2026. An award ceremony will be held in Osaka on the afternoon of January 24, 2027.
