Lecture 1 Title: Understanding Aging and Extending Healthy Lifespan Lecturer: Professor Makoto Nakanishi (Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo) Summary: The enigmatic process of "aging." If aging can be prevented, it may be possible to prevent various diseases. This lecture will explain the currently understood mechanisms of aging and discuss whether aging can indeed be prevented or improved.
Lecture 2 Title: Chronic Kidney Disease and Aging Lecturer: Professor Takayuki Hamano (Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Nagoya City University) Summary: Kidney function declines with "aging." The increase in dialysis patients is caused by aging. The decline in kidney function also leads to the aging of blood vessels and the heart. Medications that help prevent aging have recently become covered by insurance. This lecture will introduce the relationship between the kidneys and aging.
