Drag Queen and Playwright Esmeralda to Stage a Solo Musical Play on the Life of Actress Marlene Dietrich!

Société Le Théâtre Elysée will stage the solo musical play "Over the Wall ~The Life of Actress Marlene Dietrich~" by Esmeralda, a drag queen, singer, and playwright, in August 2026 at the Roppongi Tricolore Theater.

This work was first performed in April 2017 as part of "A Collection of Short Solo Musical Plays Vol. 2" led by composer Yasuhiro Ito, with Esmeralda herself appearing. Since then, it has also been performed by Mutsumi Fukuma, Kazuhito Ichimei, Kaito Nishimura, and Akiko Kigeta.

This time, Chuck Sawata will play the piano. After the performance of "Over the Wall," there will be a live concert featuring songs related to Marlene.

<Story>

Actress Marlene Dietrich, born in Berlin, became a global star with films such as "The Blue Angel" and "Morocco." She eventually parted ways with her homeland Germany under the Nazi regime and, as an American citizen, devoted herself to entertaining troops on the front lines of World War II, singing for soldiers amidst the sounds of gunfire, explosions, and screams.

Esmeralda

Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1972. Since 1994, she has appeared as a drag queen in events, media, and stage performances, and has also given lectures at companies, local governments, and schools. In 2002, she obtained a Heaven Artist license from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. In 2018, she debuted as a singer as a member of the diva unit "Happo Fujin" produced by Neneko Oikawa and Hideya Nakazaki. In 2012, she won an honorable mention in the TV Asahi 21st Century New Screenplay Award under her real name. Since then, she has written screenplays for dramas, films, and stage plays.
