The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) held the opening ceremony and preview event on August 27, 2026, to commemorate the participation of the 'Taiwan Pavilion' at the 'JAPAN DIY HOMECENTER SHOW 2026,' held from August 27 (Thu) to 29 (Sat), 2026, at Makuhari Messe. The opening ceremony took place at Makuhari Messe and was attended by a large number of media representatives.

At this event, 51 Taiwanese companies exhibited across five sectors: residential renovation and maintenance, home & living, safety & protection, plumbing and construction materials, and other hardware. They showcased products that combine Taiwan's advanced technological capabilities and excellent design, including precision hand tools with world-leading market share, high-performance DIY and industrial materials, storage solutions, and home-related items.

During the opening ceremony, actor Motoki Hayami, known for his passion for DIY and craftsmanship, attended as a special guest. He participated in a photo session during the opening ceremony and toured the 'Scenario Exhibition Zone,' where he could experience Taiwanese companies' products firsthand. Engaging in a dialogue with the Secretary-General, he shared his thoughts on DIY and craftsmanship, creating a moment for buyers and media representatives to experience the high technological capabilities and charm of 'Made in Taiwan' products.

The 'Taiwan Pavilion' is part of a project under the national brand 'TEAM TAIWAN,' promoted by the International Trade Administration (ITA) of Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs and TAITRA. It aims to present a 'Taiwan flagship showcase' at major international trade shows in Europe, the United States, and Japan. At the 'JAPAN DIY HOMECENTER SHOW,' Asia's largest DIY industry exhibition, it brings together Taiwan's industrial supply chain and ecosystem to enhance the international recognition, competitiveness, and strategic resilience of Taiwanese companies.

This year, 51 Taiwanese companies exhibited at the 'Taiwan Pavilion' (totaling 72 booths).

Opening Ceremony Hosted by Organizers and Guests

The opening ceremony began with a screening of a video showcasing Taiwan's DIY industry, followed by TAITRA Secretary-General Wang Hsi-Meng taking the stage on behalf of the organizers. He stated, 'Taiwanese companies pay attention to the challenges faced by general consumers and provide various solutions. By combining the quality and safety standards valued by the Japanese market with Taiwan's precision manufacturing technology and innovation capabilities, we hope to foster future joint development.' He invited attendees to experience the craftsmanship of Taiwanese products.

Next, Inaba Toshiyuki, President of the Japan DIY and Home Center Association, took the stage on behalf of the guests. He said, 'Taiwan's renowned technological capabilities, innovation, and sustainability with environmental considerations are exactly what Japanese companies seek. We hope that collaboration between Taiwan's craftsmanship and Japan's home centers will lead to new value and better partnerships.'

Following this, Takashima Hirotaka, Director of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Hsieh Wei-Chieh, Section Chief of the Economic Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, and Hsiao Fang-Wei, Vice Chairman of the Taiwan Hand Tool Institute, took the stage. Next, actor Motoki Hayami appeared as a special guest. He shared that he regularly engages in DIY, designing spaces and using tools for self-designed projects. He frequently visits home centers and commented with a smile, 'When I'm browsing around, I often realize I've spent 2-3 hours there.' When selecting items, he pays attention not only to ease of use and multifunctionality but also to design and color. He also mentioned that he often visits Taiwan for culinary experiences and explores wholesale districts. After the photo session, Hayami moved to the 'Scenario Exhibition Zone' within the venue, where he received explanations about the latest DIY and home center products from Taiwanese companies. He expressed admiration for the environmental considerations that extend to product usage, saying, 'It's wonderful that they think about what happens after the product is made.'

Guided Tour of the Taiwan Pavilion: 'I Want to Use This as a Reference for Finding a New Partner Tool'

Hayami participated in the 'Taiwan Pavilion Guided Tour' with VIPs and buyers. He toured the Industrial Scenario Exhibition Zone, Digital Zone, and booths of Taiwanese exhibitors, experiencing one user-friendly product after another, such as tool drivers and scissors. He showed particular interest in a multi-functional torch that can also be used as a cooking burner, listening attentively to the explanations.

After the tour, Hayami commented, 'Everything I saw was fresh and exciting. Since I'm involved in space design and DIY, I'd like to use this as a reference for finding a new partner tool.' He deepened his interest in Taiwan's diverse DIY products and craftsmanship.
