The summer beach season has arrived once again, with five beaches across Wakayama City opening sequentially starting Saturday, June 27. At Katamachi Beach, the popular marine adventure course 'AQua LooP,' which made its debut last year to great acclaim, returns for another season.
Additionally, at Naniha Beach, new initiatives have been introduced this year, including snorkeling and diving experiences, offering visitors fresh ways to enjoy the ocean beyond traditional swimming.
Wakayama City boasts attractive beaches where visitors can enjoy beautiful seas and nature, despite being easily accessible from urban centers. This summer, why not create unforgettable memories with family and friends at the beaches of Wakayama City?
Katamachi Beach (Open until August 31)
Popular with families for its white sandy beach and spacious shoreline
Selected as one of Japan’s 'Top 100 Excellent Beaches – Premium Category,' Katamachi Beach is located in 'Wakaura,' a scenic spot celebrated in the Manyoshu poetry anthology. It features approximately 1,200 meters of pristine sandy beach. A large parking lot adjacent to the beach enhances accessibility, making it convenient for families. The marine adventure course 'AQua LooP' returns this year with additional new equipment, offering even more excitement than last year. This summer-only activity allows participants of all ages—from children to adults—to run, jump, and slide across large floating obstacles on the water.
Haminomi Beach (Open until August 31)
A stylish urban beach with excellent access
Located right in front of Marina City, Haminomi Beach is the city’s newest and trendiest beach, offering a resort-like atmosphere. It’s also ideal for water sports such as windsurfing.
Kada Beach (Open until August 23)
A scenic beach with calm waves, offering views of Tomogashima Island
A natural sandy beach with shallow, gentle waves, perfect for families. Visitors can enjoy barbecues and glamping with loved ones.
Naniha Beach (Open until August 31)
A beach where you can experience the ocean while surrounded by nature
Situated in Wakaura Bay, this beautiful beach has also been selected for the 'Top 100 Excellent Beaches' list. With calm waters, it’s ideal for families with young children.
Barbecues are permitted, and the rest facilities have been newly renovated.
This year marks the first trial opening of designated diving instruction zones.
Iso-no-ura Beach (Open until August 31)
One of the top surfing spots in the Kansai region
One of the few natural white-sand beaches with shallow waters. Renowned as a premier surfing destination in Kansai, it welcomes surfers of all levels—from beginners to experts. During the swimming season, surfing zones and swimming areas are clearly separated for safety.
