Michi-no-Eki 'Shiki no Sato Koen' will install a biogas plant that utilizes food waste generated within the park as feedstock for methane fermentation, advancing the city's first resource-circulating park initiative.
The facility will be installed by the designated management body, the limited liability partnership FOOD HUNTER PARK, with cooperation from Vaios Co., Ltd., headquartered in Wakayama City. It will use all food waste-derived methane fermentation feedstock from park restaurants such as 'Hi no Shokudo' to generate soil conditioners, electricity, and thermal energy. The produced soil conditioner will be used for landscaping within the park, while electricity and heat will support park operations (refer to Figure 1).
Additionally, since visitors can observe up close how food waste is transformed into energy and resources, the initiative is expected to raise environmental awareness. The installation of explanatory signage will also allow the site to serve as an environmental education space for children.
