The city was established on October 1, 2005, through the merger of Kamifukuoka City and Ooi Town. It is a municipality located within a 30-kilometer radius of the city center, with an area of 14.64 square kilometers and a population of 114,000 people (as of April 2022). Kawagoe Kaido (National Route 254), Tobu Tojo Line, and Kan-etsu Expressway run north-south through the city. Rich natural environments such as the Shingashi River and groves of trees remain, and the city continues to develop as a vibrant town with thriving commercial distribution businesses and agriculture in the Tokyo metropolitan area, leveraging its convenient transportation.
