Spa Resort Hawaiians Dancing Team (Hula Girls) Announces 84th Generation Solo Dancer AZUMI's Solo Name and Solo Debut Performance Date – First-Ever Mother-Daughter Solo Dancers in Hawaiians History

Spa Resort Hawaiians, operated by Tokiwa Kousan Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture), announces that AZUMI (56th generation, from Ibaraki Prefecture) has been selected as the 84th generation solo dancer of the Hula Girls (officially known as the Spa Resort Hawaiians Dancing Team), as previously stated in the press release titled 'Announcement on the New Structure of the Spa Resort Hawaiians Dancing Team'.

We are now pleased to announce that AZUMI’s solo name and solo debut performance date have been set for Friday, July 17, 2026.

Puuanani Asumi

The solo name bestowed upon AZUMI is 'Puuanani Asumi'. 'Pua nani' means 'beautiful flower' in Hawaiian, symbolizing the hope that she will always cherish kindness and purity of heart, and continue to grow—both as a dancer and as a woman—to bloom beautifully like a flower.

Puuanani Asumi has loved dancing since childhood. Inspired by her mother, who was a former solo dancer of the Hula Girls, she developed a dream of becoming a Hula Girl after entering high school. Her mother was a 26th-generation student of the Tokiwa Music and Dance Academy and performed as the solo dancer 'Puuanani Junko', retiring in 1993. By inheriting the same solo name 'Puuanani', Puuanani Asumi becomes the first mother-daughter duo to achieve solo dancer status in the history of the Spa Resort Hawaiians Dancing Team.

Puuanani Asumi joined Tokiwa Kousan Co., Ltd. in April 2020, simultaneously enrolling as a 56th-generation student at the Tokiwa Music and Dance Academy, and made her stage debut in September of the same year.

Since her debut, she has pursued her goal of becoming a solo dancer like her mother, dedicating herself to daily stage performances and rigorous training. She has now been selected as a solo dancer and will perform 'Taneimua', the symbolic solo dance. Filled with joy that her dream has come true, she aims to reach even greater heights and become a dancer who leaves a lasting impression on audiences of the Polynesian Show.

Following in my mother’s footsteps, I have strived to become a Hula Girl and worked tirelessly to achieve my dream of becoming a solo dancer since joining the company.

Being the first mother-daughter duo to become solo dancers in the long history of Hawaiians fills me with joy and a deep sense of responsibility.

I will carry on the legacy of the name 'Puuanani' and my mother’s wishes, continuing to bloom with my own unique color and fragrance.
