Nippon TV and Bascule have jointly released 'TerraCaster,' a next-generation Earth observation video platform utilizing weather satellite data. Starting with this project, both companies aim to expand the possibilities of space entertainment by promoting the utilization of space data. 'TerraCaster' is an innovative platform that interpolates images taken by the Himawari weather satellite, located approximately 36,000 km above the equator, at 10-minute intervals to create smooth, live-camera-like footage. It displays the 'current Earth' as of one hour ago with the realism and impact of an astronaut returning from the moon. On June 5th, World Environment Day, the platform will appear on over 60 digital signages nationwide in collaboration with companies including LIVE BOARD. Additionally, it will be screened in 11K ultra-high definition at Toranomon Hills. The development aims to combine Bascule's expertise in space media services with Nippon TV's program production know-how to evolve satellite data into high-value content. Future applications include news, weather forecasts, special programs, and educational settings.
