Japan Energy Storage Development Institute Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo; Representative Director: Aki Hoshino; hereinafter 'JESDI'), advancing the social implementation of grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), has completed grid connection at the 'Hachigata Energy Storage Station' under development in Hiki Town, Saitama Prefecture, on July 13, 2026.
This project marks JESDI’s fourth grid-connected site in Japan, following facilities in Aisho Town, Shiga Prefecture; Upper Nara, Kumagaya City, Saitama; and Shichinoki, Kamisato Town, Saitama. It is a new energy storage facility within Saitama Prefecture. JESDI continues to adopt HOBE ENERGY’s 5ft compact battery system, further evolving the rapid deployment model demonstrated at Upper Nara and Shichinoki.
Installation Overview
▲ Hachigata Energy Storage Station Aerial View (Hiki Town, Saitama Prefecture)
▲ Installation Status of HOBE ENERGY’s 5ft Compact Battery System (Hachigata Energy Storage Station)
Facility Name: Hachigata Energy Storage Station
Location: Hiki Town, Hiki District, Saitama Prefecture
Construction Start Date: March 24, 2026
Grid Connection Date: July 13, 2026 (approximately 4 months after construction start)
Construction Partner: E-Top Co., Ltd.
Operations Support: RUTILEA Inc.
Battery System: HOBE ENERGY Co., Ltd. 5ft Compact Integrated Battery System (EMS, PCS, and substation equipment in an integrated design)
The facility adopts a land acquisition model that effectively utilizes abandoned farmland, which is increasing due to the aging of agricultural workers, serving as a case study that simultaneously revitalizes idle farmland and advances energy storage infrastructure. While the industry standard primarily relies on 20ft containers, this project uses HOBE ENERGY’s 5ft compact battery system. This enables installation even in locations with narrow access routes or sharp curves, significantly enhancing adaptability to diverse potential sites, including abandoned farmland. Achieving grid connection approximately four months after groundbreaking demonstrates ongoing standardization of design and construction processes aimed at shortening time-to-market.
Future Outlook — Accelerating Nationwide Deployment of Energy Storage Infrastructure
JESDI is currently implementing energy storage stations at one of the fastest paces in Japan. Moving forward, by combining diverse land-use models—including the effective utilization of abandoned farmland—the company will accelerate energy storage infrastructure development across Japan, leveraging regional idle assets.
JESDI will continue strengthening its four-party integrated framework with HOBE ENERGY Co., Ltd. (integrated battery systems), RUTILEA Inc. (aggregator and market operations), and E-Top Co., Ltd. (construction), to accelerate nationwide deployment of energy storage infrastructure.
