VELVETA DESIGN (Headquarters: Suginami-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Shigeki Hirayama), a company that handles various spatial creations under the theme of "Designing Atmosphere," will be in charge of the "Hikari no Emaki" (Scroll of Light) installation at the "Japan Night View Heritage Site Certified Enoshima Lantern 2026" (Organizer: Shonan Fujisawa Revitalization Consortium), held in Enoshima, Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture, from August 1 (Sat) to September 23 (Wed, Holiday), 2026.

"Hikari no Emaki," which combines light and sound to fantastically color the summer night of Enoshima, will be staged from Enoshima Shrine's Zuishinmon Gate to Hetsunomiya Shrine, and up to the Enoshima Samuel Coxing Garden located at the summit of Enoshima. We look forward to welcoming many visitors again this year.

Enoshima Lantern 2026 "Hikari no Emaki"

This year's "Hikari no Emaki" will be held for 54 days from August 1 to September 23, longer than in previous years!

To allow more people to enjoy the 2026 "Enoshima Lantern," the event will start on August 1, the height of summer, and the period will be extended by about 10 days until the Silver Week holiday on September 23. In recent years, with longer hot seasons, please enjoy a cooler evening cool-down in Enoshima from dusk till night with the "Hikari no Emaki" production during this event, which is held for a longer period than usual.

Experience the world of "Hikari no Emaki" spreading to Samuel Coxing Garden; let's savor the sparkle and coolness of Enoshima from dusk till night.

From Enoshima Shrine's Zuishinmon Gate, up the stone steps, and to Hetsunomiya Shrine. Furthermore, the "Hikari no Emaki" installation, which has been expanding its stage to Enoshima Samuel Coxing Garden since last year, is inspired by the legend of Enoshima's birth, "Enoshima Engi," and features the theme of "Breathing Radiance." It is a dazzling yet serene production that allows you to feel the atmosphere of a summer night.

The light cutouts projected around Zuishinmon Gate are updated with new motifs each year. This year, "Hikari no Umi" (Sea of Light), which shines by receiving light from the sky, and "Toro" (Lantern), the event's namesake, will be newly introduced. Sound effects that evoke coolness will also be used, allowing you to enjoy an even more vibrant and refreshing night in Enoshima.

At Hetsunomiya Shrine, after ascending the stone steps where "Hikari no Michibiki" (Guiding Light) is expressed with sparkling lights centered around Zuishinmon Gate, you will find wind chimes made of seashells that ring with a cool sound under the reed blinds covering the passage to the main shrine. These wind chimes, adorned with light, will sway and color the soft night at Hetsunomiya.

At the "Enoshima Samuel Coxing Garden," a park facility located at the summit of Enoshima, the transparent lantern "Tenku no Akari" (Light of the Heavens), which soars high towards the sky amidst rich nature, will welcome visitors by swaying in the summer breeze and emitting brilliant, fantastical sparkling lights.

Upon arriving in Enoshima in the evening, first, head to "Enoshima Iwaya Caves" to receive energy from this power spot (please check the last admission time). Then, slowly wait for dusk and pay your respects at Okutsumiya Shrine!

As dusk settles, take a break at Enoshima Samuel Coxing Garden while gazing at "Tenku no Akari," which emits a transparent glow. Once it's fully dark, listen to the sound of the wind chimes at Hetsunomiya and reflect on the legend of the celestial maiden and the five-headed dragon. Descend the stone steps and return towards Zuishinmon Gate, feeling the night breeze... the light cutouts and the "Hikari no Umi" illuminating the stairs await.

This year's recommendation is the "Style Starting with a Tour of Evening View Spots," allowing you to enjoy the vibrant and cool world of "Hikari no Emaki" and the nature-filled Enoshima as a whole on a summer night.

"Enoshima Lantern," an Event Mindful of Sustainability

Enoshima Lantern has been mindful of sustainability since its inception. While ensuring everyone can enjoy the event, efforts are continuously made behind the scenes to reduce waste and save labor, ensuring the event's continuity and minimizing environmental impact. The motifs used for "Hikari no Emaki" are selected for their durability of several years and are arranged to maintain novelty in their presentation. Most other equipment is stored and maintained for reuse every year.

What is the installation "Hikari no Emaki" by VELVETA DESIGN?

"Hikari no Emaki" is a light installation that VELVETA DESIGN, with its track record in designing and directing events such as Marunouchi "Marunouchi Bright Christmas," Grand Front Osaka "Grand Wish Christmas," Sapporo "Sapporo White Illumination," and Nagano Zenkoji "Light of Hope," and Omotesando Illumination, has been creating since its first year.

This production, centered around Enoshima Shrine's Zuishinmon Gate, stone steps, and Hetsunomiya Shrine, and expanded to Enoshima Samuel Coxing Garden at the summit of Enoshima since last year, is continuously updated each year, drawing inspiration primarily from the legend of Enoshima's birth, "Enoshima Engi."

Since its start in 2021, "Hikari no Emaki" has illuminated visitors and conveyed the story told in "Enoshima Engi." Please enjoy the summer nights in Enoshima, brilliantly and fantastically colored by this light installation, with your loved ones, family, or friends.
