Fellow Academy, a translation school (operated by Amelia Network Co., Ltd. [Tokyo, Representative: Daisuke Shiraishi]), will launch a new course specializing in training "Lingists," professionals sought by the translation industry in the AI era, in April 2027. This new course is a revamped version of its established full-time "College Course," which has produced many graduates for the translation industry.
Background of the Course Revamp
The spread of AI translation has significantly changed the workflow of translation tasks. Translation companies are currently in highest demand for personnel with "translation quality management" skills, who can identify errors in AI-generated translations and refine them to the final quality required by clients. "Lingists," who are not just translators but professionals capable of taking responsibility for quality while utilizing technology, are desperately needed by the industry. In response to these on-site needs, Fellow Academy has completely revamped the curriculum of its traditional College Course based on its 51 years of experience in translation education. It has been reborn as a new course where students can systematically and intensively acquire the skills demanded by the forefront of the industry in one year.
▼ What Kind of Professionals Are Needed on Site? - Voices from Company Representatives
"In practical work, opportunities to engage with AI translation and machine translation are increasing, making "lingist-like qualities" – the ability to logically assess translation quality and make appropriate judgments – increasingly important. We believe that individuals with solid language and research skills, who can provide grounds for their own judgments after correctly understanding the characteristics and strengths of AI and other technologies, will become specialized professionals who can thrive long-term in translation companies and corporations."
- Hiring Manager, Interbooks Inc.
"The subjects in the Lingist Course are extremely practical when compared to our actual work processes. For example, by thoroughly mastering the operation of translation support tools actually used in the field from the basics, adaptation and understanding of the work become smoother, leading to subsequent proficiency and growth."
- Ms. Oda, Talent Finder, SDL Japan K.K.

A Message from Fellow Academy
Yoko Murota, Director, Fellow Academy, a Translation School
As translation becomes increasingly automated by AI, the demand for "people who evaluate and utilize AI translations" rather than "people who translate" is rapidly increasing. The spread of machine translation using generative AI is significantly changing corporate multilingual communication. On the other hand, there is a need for personnel who can assess the quality of AI-generated translations and ensure the accuracy and reliability of information.
Fellow Academy's Lingist Course is a program designed to meet these social demands and train "Lingists," language professionals who support multilingual communication by utilizing AI. In addition to language proficiency, students will systematically learn about the utilization of translation technology, evaluation of translation quality, and intercultural communication, aiming to acquire practical skills required in the AI era, which will be valuable not only in the translation industry but also in companies expanding globally.
Through this course, Fellow Academy will contribute to the development of advanced language professionals who support multilingual communication in the AI era.
