The 80” Film Festival Executive Committee has announced the call for entries for the '80” (Hachi-Zero) Film Festival in Taiwan,' scheduled to be held on November 14, 2026, in Taipei, Taiwan.

The 80” Film Festival is the world's shortest film festival, with a strict runtime limit of exactly 80 seconds. Born in Yao City, Osaka Prefecture, in 2016, it aims to discover and promote regional charm through the universally beloved medium of film, under the concept of 'connecting towns and the world in 80 seconds.'

In recent years, short-form videos have gained global popularity on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. In an era where anyone can easily create and share videos using smartphones, the festival values the storytelling, emotional impact, and cinematic expression that can emerge within the tight constraint of 80 seconds. It serves as a platform for students and young creators to challenge themselves, welcoming submissions from both professionals and amateurs worldwide.

First Overseas Edition

The '80” Film Festival in Taiwan' marks the festival's first international expansion.

This Taiwan edition is themed 'Connecting Japan and Taiwan in 80 Seconds,' inviting 80-second films that artistically portray the unique charms of Japan and Taiwan through narrative storytelling, aiming to foster new forms of cultural exchange through cinema.

Origins and Future Vision of the 80” Film Festival

The 80” Film Festival was founded on the idea of 'creating a space where anyone can challenge filmmaking, even without prior video production experience.' Without the need for large budgets or professional equipment like in feature films, anyone with creativity and passion can become a director. The 80-second format highlights imagination and storytelling, fostering the emergence of new talent.

Guided by this philosophy, the 80” Film Festival continues to grow as a platform where students and young creators can challenge themselves and showcase their artistic expressions.

With the Taiwan edition as its first step, the festival aims to expand globally, becoming an international cultural exchange project that connects the cultures and people of Japan and Taiwan through film, under the concept of 'connecting towns and the world in 80 seconds.'

We look forward to films that move hearts across national and linguistic boundaries and welcome submissions from creators around the world.
