Shinjuku East Exit Cat Manga Project Launch
Cross Shinjuku Vision (operated by Cross Space Co., Ltd.), home to the 3D giant cat that stunned the world, will celebrate its 5th anniversary in July 2026. With the completion of 'Cross Shinjuku Vision 2' expected next summer, turning the site into a twin vision setup, the brand continues to evolve. Marking this turning point, we are launching our first manga project to expand the world of the 'Shinjuku East Exit Cat' and 'Cross Shinjuku Vision 1 & 2' beyond the digital billboards.
In the first phase of this project, four manga artists will participate over four consecutive months. Each month, one artist will depict their own vision of the 'Shinjuku East Exit Cat' and the future of Shinjuku in a new manga, which will be published on official SNS accounts and other platforms.
Project Background: Diverse 'Cat' Perspectives for the 5th Anniversary
Since its debut in 2021, the 'Shinjuku East Exit Cat' has watched over Shinjuku. To commemorate our 5th anniversary, we launched this project to allow fans to enjoy the cat's charm from a different angle than video.
Rather than tying the work to rigid 'official settings,' we have asked the participating artists to leverage their own sensibilities. By showcasing different expressions and daily lives of the 'cat' as perceived by each artist, we hope to broaden the image of the 'Shinjuku East Exit Cat' and the future of Shinjuku for everyone.
Production Cooperation from NPO LEGIKA, Operator of 'Tokiwaso Project'
This project was realized with the cooperation of NPO LEGIKA, which operates the manga artist training program 'Tokiwaso Project.' Manga production is handled by 'Regika Studio,' also operated by LEGIKA. Leveraging their creator network, they have selected four manga artists, including graduates of the Tokiwaso Project, to unfold diverse stories of the cat.
First Artist: 'Gyaku-shu' from the Tokiwaso Project!
The relay kicks off with Gyaku-shu, a manga artist from the Tokiwaso Project known for unique humor and a cat-lover's perspective. Please look forward to seeing how the giant cat in Shinjuku looks through their eyes and what stories they weave.
