KoLg Co., Ltd. (Toshima-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Masao Tsutsumi) is pleased to announce the renewal of its 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) web viewer within the BIM/CIM cloud 'KOLC+' to support LoD (Level of Detail). This update allows for rapid initial display and spatial sharing of large-scale 3DGS files exceeding 1GB on web browsers through file splitting technology.
Background of Development Since its emergence in 2023, 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has garnered global attention as a groundbreaking 3D generation technology. Recently, its use for site digital twins and progress management in the construction industry has expanded rapidly. However, construction sites requiring wide-area management often result in extremely large 3DGS file sizes. To share and view these smoothly in general web browsers (cloud environments), support for 'LoD (Level of Detail)' technology—which optimizes the detail of data loaded based on camera distance and perspective—became essential.
In early 2026, LoD support advanced rapidly in OSS 3DGS rendering engines. Our company quickly adopted this cutting-edge technology and completely overhauled the conventional 3DGS viewer architecture. As a result, even scenes of vast construction sites can now be rendered and shared at high speed without stress on browsers.
What is LoD (Level of Detail)? LoD is a rendering acceleration technology that automatically controls 3D data to be 'coarse at a distance and fine up close.' It dynamically regulates data density and precision in real-time according to the distance from the user's viewpoint (camera position). By pre-splitting and optimizing 3DGS files based on levels of detail, it becomes possible to load only the minimum required data.
