Goldfish Pearl Mon-Mandala®︎
SUNBUNNONANA Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Ise City, Mie Prefecture, President: Nanami Ozaki), which operates the Akoya pearl brand "SEVEN THREE." (Seventhree), announces the brand's new symbol, the "Goldfish Pearl Family Crest," and launches the new series "Goldfish Pearl x ART." The "Goldfish Pearl Family Crest" is a mark symbolizing the brand's origins, fusing "Goldfish Pearls®," Akoya pearls with unique individuality created by nature that possess a tail fin-like shape, with the Japanese traditional culture of family crests.
As a new initiative to give form to this philosophy, the series "Goldfish Pearl x ART" is launched to expand the possibilities of pearls beyond the realm of jewelry. As the first installment, we will offer the "Goldfish Pearl Tea Bowl," which features a Goldfish Pearl on a tea bowl crafted by ceramic artist Shota Yamada, on a made-to-order basis. "Goldfish Pearl x ART" is a series that expands its values into new expressions. Through the "Goldfish Pearl Family Crest" and "Goldfish Pearl x ART," SEVEN THREE. will pass on the "culture of cherishing individuality" to the future.
Meaning Behind the "Goldfish Pearl Family Crest"
Family crests are "marks" passed down in Japan since ancient times. They represent the history, thoughts, and pride of people and families, and have been inherited across generations. Inspired by this Japanese culture, SEVEN THREE. created the "Goldfish Pearl Family Crest" with the wish to pass on the pearl culture nurtured by the seas of Ise-Shima and the aesthetic sense of valuing the individuality of each pearl to the future.
Goldfish Pearl Family Crest
Design Concept
Originally, perfectly round pearls were considered the most superior. However, depending on how they form within the Akoya oyster, a tail fin-like shape can appear on the pearl. These were once overlooked as non-standard items. Naming this shape "Goldfish Pearl" and recognizing its value is an expression of the aspiration to accept differences and transform them into beauty. The sight of something overlooked gaining light and turning into good fortune can be said to be a propitious sign of luck turning. The goldfish depicted in the crest represent abundance and expansion, while the Akoya oyster represents the power to embrace and nurture. The outer ring signifies harmony and protection, meaning that inner value quietly unfolds. The Goldfish Pearl crest is a mark imbued with the wish to leverage differences, gently circulate luck and connections, and lead to prosperity.
Emblematic Painter / Shoryu Hatoba & Yoho Hatoba
Inheriting the techniques of emblematic painters who hand-paint family crests on kimonos, this father-and-son duo created the unique technique "Mon-Mandala®︎," which fuses the drawing of family crests using only "circles and lines" with digital technology. As artisans and artists who depict all things in nature based on "Family Crests x Design & Art," they have provided numerous works to domestic and international companies, brands, and hotels.
New Series "Goldfish Pearl x ART": From Adornment to Companionship in Daily Life
SEVEN THREE. has so far delivered Goldfish Pearls as jewelry. However, the charm of pearls is not limited to wearing them. It is also about gazing at them. Holding them. Spending time with them in daily life.
By bringing together Goldfish Pearls with diverse expressions such as ceramics, glass, woodworking, and lacquerware, we will create new value and experiences. ART does not merely mean creating works. It represents new value and experiences born from the encounter between unique pearls created by nature and human sensibility and skill. Through this series, SEVEN THREE. aims for pearls to become companions in people's daily lives.
First Installment "Goldfish Pearl Tea Bowl"
Goldfish Pearl Tea Bowl
For the first installment of the series, we chose the tea bowl, a symbol of Japanese culture. The tea bowl is one of the most familiar crafts that we can pick up, use, and gaze at daily. We present the "Goldfish Pearl Tea Bowl," featuring a Goldfish Pearl on a tea bowl crafted by ceramic artist Shota Yamada. Its unique form with soft indentations fits naturally in the hand, creating a comforting grip. The surface of the vessel expresses scenery reminiscent of an Akoya oyster shell. A single Goldfish Pearl, evoking a goldfish swimming in the sea, is placed on the rim of the bowl.
In the world of pearls, where perfect roundness and uniformity are valued, we have found new value in pearls with different expressions for each piece and conveyed their charm. On the other hand, ceramics also have a culture that respects differences in each piece, such as the expressions of shapes and glazes, and the accidental scenery born in the kiln. Both Goldfish Pearls and tea bowls share the value of "no two are alike" and the Japanese aesthetic of enjoying "mitate" (finding resemblances). The unique pearl nurtured by nature, the unique vessel created by human hands and earth, and the final pearl chosen by the owner. When these three elements come together, a one-of-a-kind work is completed.
