ESCAPE R3 / R DISC Undergo Full Model Change, Achieving More Stable Riding and a Cleaner Look

Since its launch in 2004, the "Escape R3" has been chosen as the "first bike" by many cyclists for over 20 years. It is a standard model of a best-selling crossbike that truly represents Japan, with cumulative shipments exceeding 500,000 units. While maintaining this status, it has been continuously updated to adapt to changes in road environments, lifestyles, and trends.

Now evolved into its 6th generation, the "Escape R3" and its disc brake counterpart, the "Escape R Disc," have been reborn as new standards. They offer a refreshing ride through the city, practicality for everyday use, and a superior look, making them versatile for everything from commuting and school runs to weekend cycling.

The ALUXX aluminum frame and steel front fork, the core of the "Escape R3" and "Escape R Disc," have been completely redesigned. The frame now features internal cable routing, and the fork's outer diameter at the junction with the frame has been matched to achieve a clean appearance inherited from higher-end models. Mounting holes for dedicated accessories are provided on various parts of the frame and fork, including the KSA kickstand mount on the chainstay, allowing for smart installation of fenders and kickstands.

The tires, crucial for the ride, are now standard 700x35C size, balancing comfort, stability, and rolling efficiency at a high level. The accompanying rims are also wider than before. With a larger air volume and refined geometry (combination of tube lengths and angles), they provide a more secure ride not only on paved roads but also on slightly rougher surfaces and bumps. The tire clearance supports up to 40mm.

The saddle is the "Ergo Contact" saddle, designed with everyday wear in mind. Its thick cushioning pad and central cutout design absorb road shock, reduce pain and numbness, and support a light and comfortable ride. It also supports the "Uniclip Pro" system, allowing for seamless attachment of accessories like taillights and locks.

Of course, new dedicated accessories are available for the new "Escape R3" and "Escape R Disc" to enhance usability. New fenders compatible with 35C tires, KSA mount compatible kickstands that attach directly to the chainstay, and a dedicated guard to protect the rear derailleur from falls or contact in bike racks will be released simultaneously. Baskets (aluminum, available in 2 sizes), which have been highly requested, are also planned for release at a later date.

Five frame sizes are available, from XXS to L, suitable for heights from 140cm to 195cm. The smallest XXS size also uses standard 700C wheels. Additionally, crank length, handlebar width, and stem length are adjusted according to frame size, allowing children from upper elementary school age to adults to enjoy cycling comfortably with an appropriate size.

While inheriting the basic design from the "Escape R3," the "Escape R Disc" adopts disc brakes, offering stable braking performance unaffected by weather and excellent control. The main shifting components are from the reliable Shimano brand, and the 24-speed gearing handles steep slopes. Three color options are available.
