Sega Corporation (Representative Director, President, COO: Fumiya Utsumi) is pleased to announce that its popular network competitive mahjong game, 'Sega NET Mahjong MJ' (available on iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac), has been selected as the official app for the '2nd National High School Mahjong Championship,' hosted by The Asahi Shimbun Company (Representative Director, CEO: Katsu Tsunoda).
Following the first tournament, 'MJ' continues as the official app for deciding the best high school mahjong team in Japan.
The tournament was established in 2025 in response to the growing number of young people engaging in competitive mahjong, fueled by the development of the professional mahjong league 'M.League.' The inaugural tournament last summer saw 572 participants from 286 teams across 180 schools, with the team from Tokyo Metropolitan Koishikawa Secondary Education School winning the championship.
For the second tournament, parts of the semifinals and the finals will be broadcast live on the 'ABEMA Mahjong Channel.' Furthermore, focusing on the educational value of mahjong, a joint research project will be launched in partnership with the newly sponsoring Kawaijuku Group to investigate how mahjong, as a highly advanced brain sport, contributes to the cognitive development of high school students.
Preliminaries will be held at N High School Group campuses in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka, with all matches conducted via the official tournament apps: 'Sega NET Mahjong MJ' (Sega) and 'Mahjong Fight Club Sp' (Konami Amusement). The national tournament will feature both app-based matches and real-life matches using fully automatic mahjong tables.
Interested students are encouraged to apply through the official tournament website.
