DIC Corporation (Headquarters: Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture, President: Toshimasa Tsuchida) will release a renewed product of the "KA-153 4-Unit Cooling/Heating Peltier Vest" from the "IMPACT LOCK®" brand, which supports workers in harsh environments, on July 3, 2026.

This product is a 4-unit cooling/heating Peltier vest certified as a target product for the Heatstroke Prevention Voice-Calling Project. It is equipped with four Peltier devices and supports switching between cooling and heating. In addition to heat countermeasures for outdoor work, warehouse work, agricultural work, security, and event setup in the summer, it also adapts to temperature changes due to seasons and time of day, such as the cold in early spring, early autumn, and in the morning and evening.

Sales began in June 2025, and the product achieved sales of over 600 units on Amazon.JP between July 1 and July 31, 2025.

In the 2026 renewal (improved version), compared to the previous model, we have reviewed the wearing comfort and ease of use in the field, including a larger heat dissipation BIG mesh with expanded mesh fabric area, enlarged armholes for easier arm movement during work, and improved customization of Peltier mounting position by extending the length.

For cooling, we emphasize not only a strong cooling sensation but also a balance with cooling duration that is easy to use during long working hours. The maximum usage time of approximately 8 hours is achieved not in an intermittent mode that repeats stopping and operating, but in a weak mode where all four Peltier devices operate continuously.

Furthermore, the customizable specification allows for the attachment of four Peltier devices at arbitrary positions from six mounting holes, enabling adjustment of cooling and heating points according to work content and personal sensation. This is a renewed model that emphasizes ease of use in the field, including a dedicated 20,000mAh battery, an all-mesh vest body, side stretch mesh, and a back pocket for storing cold packs or hand warmers.

Increased Need for Heat Countermeasures in Workplaces Due to Enhanced Heatstroke Prevention Measures

In recent years, summer heat has become a major challenge for outdoor and semi-outdoor work. According to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the number of deaths and injuries due to heatstroke in the workplace in 2025 was 1,803, the highest since statistics began.

Furthermore, in June 2025, heatstroke prevention measures in the workplace were strengthened, obligating employers to establish systems for early detection, create procedures to prevent severe cases, and inform relevant workers for work where there is a risk of heatstroke.

In addition, the Japan Meteorological Agency's 3-month forecast announced on June 23, 2026, indicates that temperatures for the next three months are expected to be warm, especially in the first half of the period, with Eastern Japan, Western Japan, and Okinawa/Amami being warmer than average, and Northern Japan being average or warmer. The Ministry of the Environment is also implementing the operation of special heatstroke alert and heatstroke alert for fiscal year 2026 from April 22 to October 21, 2026.

Against this backdrop, there is growing interest in wearable devices and gear that assist in cooling workers' bodies, in addition to hydration, salt intake, breaks, and management of the work environment.

Development Background: From Heat Countermeasure Products to "Temperature Countermeasure Gear" for the Field

Various heat countermeasure products such as fan-equipped clothing, cooling innerwear, cold packs, and neck coolers are used for outdoor and semi-outdoor work.

However, in environments with maximum temperatures of 35°C or higher (designated as extremely hot days) or high humidity, heat dissipation through sweat evaporation and airflow may not function effectively. The US CDC explains that in environments with temperatures exceeding 35°C and high humidity, heat dissipation through radiation and convection at rest, and sweat evaporation during exercise, is minimized.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare indicates that as heatstroke prevention measures, in addition to wearing breathable, moisture-absorbent, and quick-drying clothing, cooling the body with cold packs, ice, or cold towels is recommended to avoid heat buildup in the body.

Against this background, Peltier-type clothing, which assists cooling with devices in contact with the body, is attracting attention as one of the options for heat countermeasures in the field, especially in extremely hot and humid environments where airflow alone may not be sufficient.

Image of Peltier Mechanism (Cooling/Heating Principle)

Unlike fan-based cooling, Peltier vests are characterized by the direct sensation of cold or warmth through cooled or heated plates in contact with the body. IMPACT LOCK® has renewed this product as a 4-unit model that supports both cooling and heating to adapt not only to summer heat but also to the cold in early spring, early autumn, and in the morning and evening.

This renewal focuses not only on cooling function but also on wearing comfort during work. The mesh fabric area has been expanded for a design that prevents heat buildup, and the armholes have been enlarged to increase the range of motion for easier movement during work. The length has also been extended to improve customization when worn.

Renewal Points

1. Big Mesh Fabric for a Design That Prevents Heat Buildup

Compared to the previous model, the mesh fabric area of the vest body has been expanded.

With the big mesh fabric designed for breathability, we aim for a design that prevents heat buildup even when using Peltier devices or wearing for extended periods. This specification makes it easy to wear even in environments where heat is easily felt, such as outdoor and semi-outdoor work.

Additionally, the cushioned fabric softens the contact of wiring with the body, reducing stress during wear.

Previous Product (Left) / Renewed Product (Right): Mesh holes enlarged to improve breathability.

2. Enlarged Armholes to Expand Range of Motion During Work

The armholes have been designed larger to facilitate arm movement during work.

We aim for a comfortable fit that allows for easy movement in work environments where actions such as raising, extending, bending, and carrying objects are frequent. It is designed for use in physically active scenes such as outdoor work, warehouse work, agricultural work, security, and event setup.

Previous Product (Left) / Renewed Product (Right): Armholes are larger, with more room around the underarms.

3. Extended Length to Improve Customization When Worn

The length of the vest has been extended compared to the previous model, considering ease of adjustment according to body type and wearing scene.

With the increased length, the distance between the Peltier mounting holes is widened, improving customization so that the Peltier can be attached at a position that provides a more effective cooling effect for the wearer.

Previous Product (Left) / Renewed Product (Right): Designed with a longer length.

Main Features of This Product

1. Supports Cooling and Heating Switching

Cooling mode: Up to -22°C from ambient temperature*1

It can be used for cooling in the summer and heating in cooler seasons, depending on the season and work environment. It is suitable not only as a heat countermeasure product but also for sites with temperature differences, such as early spring, early autumn, and cold mornings and evenings. The heating mode supports a maximum surface temperature of approximately 49°C*2, and employs an intermittent heating mode to avoid low-temperature burns from prolonged use.

2. Maximum Continuous Use of Approximately 8 Hours in Weak Mode with Four Peltier Devices Operating Continuously

With the included 20,000mAh dedicated battery, this product can be used for up to approximately 8 hours*1 in cooling mode.

The maximum usage time is for the weak mode where all four Peltier devices operate continuously, not an intermittent mode that repeats stopping and operating*2. It is designed to balance cooling power and duration, making it easier to continue cooling during long working hours.

*1 Usage time varies depending on the operating environment, wearing condition, and battery status. *2 Cooling mode is a function that repeats 10 minutes of cooling followed by 2 minutes of stopping. This suppresses adaptation to the skin and enhances the cooling sensation. The heating mode only uses the intermittent mode to avoid low-temperature burns from prolonged use.
