BioChromato, Inc. and AIST jointly announced the launch of the "Pinpoint Flash Heater" on June 3. The device enables rapid determination of additives in plastics without pretreatment. By combining it with a mass spectrometer, volatile components are analyzed after instantaneous thermal desorption (300-400°C) from the sample surface. It addresses challenges in recycled plastic usage by allowing rapid, on-site evaluation of additive compositions per lot. Key features include 1-minute analysis per sample, no pretreatment, and accurate identification. It is suitable for pellets and test pieces. Priced from 9.5 million JPY (excl. tax) for the heater and ChemZo ion source combination, target markets include recycled plastic makers. Sales targets are 20 units in FY2027 and 100 units over three years.
