Mieta Co., Ltd. (Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Tomoaki Muramatsu), which provides practical inquiry services with diverse professionals active in society, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the contract for the "FY2026 Junior High School Distinctive Curriculum Development Support Services" promoted by the Shibuya City Board of Education.

This project will provide comprehensive support for curriculum development and the implementation of pilot educational programs for the "Development of Distinctive Features for Municipal Junior High Schools," which involves reorganizing curricula based on four distinctive themes (Art & Design, Entrepreneurship, Global Communication, Science & Technology) at all eight Shibuya municipal junior high schools, in preparation for full-scale launch in FY2027.

Background and Objectives: Towards the Realization of the Shibuya City Education Vision

Shibuya City is promoting the development of an educational environment that stimulates each student's intellectual curiosity and respects diverse individuality, based on the revised Education Vision "Let's Create. Future Schools Where Differences are Leveraged," enacted in February 2024. Through this project, Mieta aims to foster "the ability to proactively create the future" by drawing out the uniqueness and diversity of each school, thereby supporting each school in creating new value as a "municipal junior high school of choice" for parents and students.

Mieta has a track record of supporting over 150 schools nationwide in distinctive class support. In public schools such as metropolitan high schools, and in municipalities such as Edogawa Ward and Munakata City, Mieta has implemented distinctive class support that leads to high-quality educational opportunities by rebuilding curricula to enhance school appeal and distinctiveness based on the school'sスクールポリシー (philosophy, direction, student profile to be cultivated, etc.), and by planning and operating them in conjunction with teachers. This time, our support for educational institutions in each school and municipality has been recognized, and we have been awarded the contract for the planning and operational aspects of this project.

◇Comment from Tomoaki Muramatsu, Representative Director of Mieta Co., Ltd.

"The city of Shibuya itself, where diverse cultures intersect and constant change and cutting-edge challenges are born, is the best learning field for students. I am deeply honored and feel a great sense of responsibility to participate in this major project to create a new history in public education alongside the Shibuya City Board of Education, which upholds such an advanced vision, and the passionate teachers of all eight schools.

"Our goal at Mieta is not simply to create a curriculum on paper. Our coordinators, primarily former educators, will work closely with the field, pooling wisdom with teachers and societal front-runners, to design moments where each student encounters purpose, fulfillment, and the joy of immersion in their lives. We will dedicate ourselves to supporting the nurturing of next-generation creators who will excite Japan and the world from Shibuya."

◇Comment from Rintaro Ito, Superintendent of the Shibuya City Board of Education

"In Shibuya City, we are promoting the update of public education to drive each individual's intellectual curiosity and enable them to become proactive creators of society, under the banner of 'Let's Create. Future Schools Where Differences are Leveraged' in our Education Vision revised in February 2024. In junior high schools, we are taking the results of our unique initiatives to date a step further and launching the 'Distinctive Curriculum Project for Municipal Junior High Schools' with the aim of fostering 'the ability to proactively create the future.' Municipal junior high schools are, in principle, for all citizens. To become truly municipal junior high schools for all citizens, chosen by students and parents beyond the boundaries of national, public, and private schools, it is essential to promote 'distinctive development' where each school shines uniquely through all school educational activities, including each subject and special activities, and to create an environment where innovative, attractive, and diverse learning opportunities can be obtained.

"We believe that Mieta Co., Ltd., which collaborates with practitioners active on the front lines of various fields regardless of region or school type, is a strong partner in this project. We expect them to bring a fresh perspective to school sites with the creativity and mobility cultivated through their past achievements, and to jointly create 'future schools' where children can expand their potential limitlessly."
