Unicast Inc. (Headquarters: Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture; Representative Director: Yuta Mitsubori; hereinafter "Unicast") will participate as a technical partner in the "Joint Demonstration Experiment of Remote Construction using a Real-time Digital Twin Platform," to be conducted by Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Taito-ku, Tokyo; President and Executive Officer: Masafumi Senzaki; hereinafter "Hitachi Construction Machinery") and Fukudome Kaihatsu Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture; Representative Director: Masashi Oba; hereinafter "Fukudome Kaihatsu") in Tosa City, Kochi Prefecture, starting in June 2026. In this demonstration, Unicast will provide software that converts construction site terrain into 3D data in real time.
In recent years, the construction industry has faced a severe labor shortage due to the declining birthrate and aging population, leading to increased interest in remote construction as a means to achieve both safety and productivity. The "Real-time Digital Twin Platform" developed by Hitachi Construction Machinery is a platform that integrates 3D terrain data, location information of construction machinery, vehicles, and workers, and camera footage to reproduce the construction site in a virtual space in real time. This experiment will verify improvements in safety and productivity through remote excavation work using hydraulic excavators.
Unicast is responsible for developing and providing software that processes point cloud data acquired by LiDAR in real time to generate high-precision 3D models of the changing construction site terrain in a virtual space. The development of this software was carried out in cooperation with Hitachi Construction Machinery and Aptpod, Inc., with the completion of the real-time digital twin platform announced in May 2024. This demonstration experiment marks the full-scale verification phase of the technology at an actual construction site.
