Tenchijin Co., Ltd. (Chuo City, Tokyo; CEO: Yasuhito Sakuraba), a JAXA-certified space venture, will host a Water DX Strategy Seminar targeting municipal employees and water utility operators (public enterprises). The seminar will be held online on June 26 (Fri), July 3 (Fri), and July 8 (Wed), 2026, and participation is free of charge.

A New Perspective for Determining 'Replacement Priorities'

With initiatives such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's (MLIT) 'Water and Sewer DX Technology Catalog,' the adoption and promotion of DX technologies in the water sector are accelerating. When advancing pipe replacement, seismic reinforcement, and leak prevention, it is crucial to determine replacement priorities efficiently and develop effective plans within limited budgets and staffing.

This seminar will provide valuable insights to help formulate pipeline replacement strategies that improve water recovery rates, by introducing 'health assessment,' 'importance evaluation,' and 'replacement priority diagnosis' using AI and satellite data, and comparing results with other relevant information.

Seminar Overview

Under the theme 'Pipeline Deterioration Diagnosis Using AI and Satellite Data,' this seminar will present case studies of 'Universe Water Bureau,' a water DX solution featured in MLIT's 'Water and Sewer DX Technology Catalog.'

How much can productivity in water pipeline maintenance and renewal operations improve in the 'age of AI'? We welcome participation from municipal staff and water utility operators interested in leveraging data as a strategic tool for leak detection and pipeline renewal.

About 'Universe Water Bureau'

'Universe Water Bureau' is a water DX solution that supports sustainable water utility operations by leveraging satellite data. Recognized for its high technical capability and low implementation barrier, it has received the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Award at the 7th Infrastructure Maintenance Awards and the Jury Special Prize at the 6th Space Application Promotion Awards. It is also listed in MLIT's 'Water and Sewer DX Technology Catalog' (pages 187–188, Practical Application Section).

Since the service launch in April 2023, the cumulative number of contracted municipalities has exceeded 60 (as of April 2026).

*Including contract renewals

1. Support for Acoustic Leak Detection Based on Leak Risk Diagnosis

By diagnosing pipeline risks at meter-level resolution using satellite data, it enables high-resolution assessment of current and near-future leak risks. It also supports mesh-level leak risk diagnosis depending on use cases. By narrowing down areas with high leak probability, it helps identify priority inspection zones easily, enabling efficient maintenance and management.

2. Support for Developing Pipeline Replacement Plans Based on Regional Characteristics

By combining 'health assessment' (based on leak risk diagnosis results) and 'importance evaluation'—which comprehensively considers impacts on facilities and daily life from residential areas to critical water supply facilities (hospitals, schools, evacuation centers, etc.)—the system generates multiple 'replacement priority scenarios.' Through region-specific scenarios, it supports the rational and transparent determination of pipeline replacement priorities, enabling the development of highly practical plans.
