AI-Powered Wind Gust Forecasting System Introduced to Hakone Ropeway

Odakyu Hakone Co., Ltd. and the Japan Weather Association (JWA) announced the introduction of 'AI Wind Gust Forecasting' and 'AI Storm Probability Forecasting' to the Hakone Ropeway, starting April 15, 2026. This initiative aims to enhance operational decisions and provide accurate information during strong winds. By utilizing 'ensemble forecasting,' which considers multiple simulation scenarios, the system provides hourly predictions up to 36 hours ahead. This marks the first time such technology has been used in Japan's ropeway sector to support stable operations and passenger comfort.
