Mokuseisha (Kyoto, Japan; CEO/Editor-in-Chief: Kiyo Fujishiro), announced the launch of a new bilingual literary journal, 'THE EASTERN OBSERVER,' which will disseminate contemporary literature and art from Japan and Asia to the world in both Japanese and English, starting July 4, 2026.

'THE EASTERN OBSERVER' is a title dedicated to promoting literature and art from Japan and Asia domestically and internationally. The inaugural issue, 'THE EASTERN OBSERVER 01,' features 13 contemporary authors, artists, and creators, including the skateboard/photo unit 'Kawa,' architect Lina Ghotmeh, filmmaker Kaori Oda, the film collective Kuzoku, writer Alfian Sa'at, cartoonist Woshibai, suzusan Creative Director Hiroyuki Murase, musician Minsu, and poet Torisanno Mabuta. Contributions include expertise from professionals such as Hikaru Fujii, Mitsuko Watanabe, Mitsutaka Nagira, Fumihisa Miyata, and Kei Wakabayashi.

In addition to the magazine, the company plans original series in their official newsletter, along with an exhibition (July 1–15, 2026) and a talk session (July 2, 2026) at Daikanyama T-Site. Through collaborations with overseas bookstores and art book fairs, the journal aims to broaden the reach of Japanese and Asian culture.
