Seino Nagaya University Ponpoko Campus (Ikuno Ward, Osaka) will host its original event, 'Unconventional Instructors Solo Live Vol. 1: Men Enchanted by Driftwood – Beloved Misfits Living Their Truth,' on Monday, July 20, 2026 (a national holiday). The event invites two artists who have dedicated their lives to driftwood—often dismissed as mere debris—and offers a three-part immersive experience of their life philosophy through talks, live performances, and workshops.

Project Background: Why 'Unconventional Instructors'?

Seino Nagaya University Ponpoko Campus is launching a new series titled 'Unconventional Instructors,' which deeply explores adults who cast off societal norms and conventions, forging their own paths with personal values.

'Unconventional Instructors' refers to beloved 'misfits' or 'explorers' who abandon mainstream standards and persistently pursue their own paths, however unrefined they may seem. This initiative aims to dramatically expand participants’ choices and possibilities by exposing them to these sharp, rule-breaking life philosophies (lives).

The inaugural theme is 'driftwood.' By showcasing instructors who find value and beauty in overlooked beach debris and express themselves through it for a lifetime, the event encourages participants to re-examine their own sense of 'normal.'

Highlights: When Nameless Wood Fragments Transform into Captivating Art

Driftwood—shaped by raging currents, eroded, and enduring a harsh journey before washing ashore. While society sees it as 'mere flotsam,' for driftwood artists, it is a treasure trove. The moment a human genuinely falls in love with an anonymous piece of wood and gently breathes soul into it, it transforms into an overwhelming sculptural form that instantly captivates viewers.

This event is not a formal lecture. It is structured as a 'solo live' experience where participants are fully immersed in the philosophy and passion behind the creation, through the instructors’ own words and live performances.

No Boundary Between Participants and Organizers: The 'Wild Self-System'

There is no boundary between 'organizers' and 'guests' at this event. We adopt a homey operational style called the 'Wild Self-System,' where each participant voluntarily takes initiative in reception, setup, and cleanup. A key feature of this project is that everyone co-creates the space together in a relaxed, party-like atmosphere.
