Kiryu Construction (Tainai City, Niigata, Representative Director Kazunori Kiryu) announced that its housing brand K.DESIGN HOUSE won the Gold Winner award at the Tokyo Design Awards 2026 for its designed and built 'House with a Skip Terrace.' Hosted by the New York-based International Awards Associate (IAA), this award was launched in 2026 to honor outstanding design across architecture, interior, and product design. The 'House with a Skip Terrace' is designed with the theme of 'private openness.' It achieves a curtain-free lifestyle by balancing privacy and security with natural light and wind. The design features a south-facing living room connected to a terrace via a skip floor, incorporating a custom 2.6-meter-wide sofa that seats four. The terrace is slightly raised from the living room to block views from the road while offering views of roadside trees and the blue sky. The award highly evaluated K.DESIGN HOUSE's architectural approach to addressing common Japanese residential challenges like privacy and crime prevention in dense areas, converting site constraints into comfort. K.DESIGN HOUSE has previously won design awards including the iF Design Award and German Design Awards.
