Pacifico Yokohama (Official Name: Pacifico Yokohama Co., Ltd., Location: Nishi-ku, Yokohama City, President and Representative Director: Hidehiro Ijihi) will hold an unveiling ceremony on August 19, 2026 (Wed.) to commemorate its 35th anniversary, featuring the installation of large-scale Sumi-Sho graphic art in the entrance areas (1st and 2nd floors) of the Conference Center. To create a space befitting the esteemed organizers and visitors from both Japan and abroad, we commissioned Mr. Gen Miyamura, a leading figure in the field of Sumi-Sho graphic art, to produce a work that evokes Japanese culture. The completed artwork, with a maximum width of 24 meters, magnificently expresses our company's concept.
The ceremony will include the first public viewing of the artwork, a talk by Mr. Miyamura about the piece, and a photo session. Additionally, attendees on the day will receive original goods featuring the artwork's design (on a first-come, first-served basis)! We invite you to visit the venue and experience the scale of the artwork and its integration with the space firsthand.

Pacifico Yokohama's Vision for This Artwork
Pacifico Yokohama opened in 1991 and celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. To date, it has hosted over 30,000 events, and by the end of November 2025, it will have welcomed a cumulative total of 100 million visitors. Notably, the Conference Center has hosted major international conferences with heads of state, such as the 2010 APEC Yokohama and the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), as well as domestic academic conferences, symposiums, corporate conventions, gatherings, and parties.
The large-scale Sumi-Sho graphic art being installed is intended to express Pacifico Yokohama's role as a gateway to the world, while embodying the "dignity" and "Japanese essence" suitable for a space welcoming organizers and participants from around the globe. For this, we commissioned contemporary artist Mr. Miyamura.
In creating the artwork, we asked Mr. Miyamura to develop the concept based on our Mission: "We support places of exchange that foster innovation, contributing to the realization of a future filled with hope," focusing on "international peace" and "exchange and creation."

What is Sumi-Sho Graphic Art?
Sumi-Sho is an abstract form of expression derived from calligraphy, departing from the form and meaning of characters. It developed as part of the post-war Japanese calligraphic art movement, resonating with Western abstract expressionism.
It is an attempt to express the aesthetic beauty of calligraphy as pure form through its materials and techniques, and has been recognized internationally as a current of modern art originating from Japan.
Mr. Miyamura further develops this Sumi-Sho by uniquely creating graphic art through digital collage, reassembling his own Sumi-Sho works.
His style, which bridges traditional calligraphic aesthetics with contemporary visual expression, has garnered support from overseas, foreign-affiliated hotels, major corporations, and private clients both domestically and internationally.

<Artist's Message>
This work began by embracing the weight of history, trust, and the spirit of seeking peace that Pacifico Yokohama, a leading MICE facility in Japan, has cultivated over many years within the international community.
To translate the aspirations and values behind the commission into a visual form, and to establish an expression with cultural depth and quality, is something I have always valued in approaching commissioned works, and it also provides an opportunity to re-examine my own creative process from multiple perspectives.
I hope this work will remain in the memories of those who view it.
