June is designated as Environmental Month. To encourage the public to engage with the natural beauty of the Enoshima coastline, a comprehensive environmental program featuring both outdoor and indoor activities will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
[Outdoor Event: Shonan Beach Clean] Presented by Shonan Mazda, this event invites participants to beautify the beach prior to the official opening of the 2026 swimming season. The gathering is scheduled for 10:30 AM on June 13. Participation is limited to the first 100 individuals who register online.
Organized by Shonan El Newspaper Co., Ltd., the event offers a unique local incentive. All participants will receive a complimentary "Enoshima Raw Donut" (custard flavor) from a recently renovated local shop located near the entrance of Subana Street.
Mr. Kurihara, Chairman of the Enoshima Bathing Beach Cooperative and a lifelong local resident, emphasizes that the beach clean-up should be approached with a relaxed mindset, akin to a leisurely stroll or shell-gathering, rather than a rigorous chore.
[Indoor Event: Marine Environment Study Session] A seminar titled "Coral Reefs in Enoshima: Understanding Our Marine Environment" will be held from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Katase Enoshima Fishing Port. This session will explore the current state of local waters and efforts toward seafloor restoration.
Mr. Haruyuki Kitamura, Chairman of the Enoshima Katase Fishery Cooperative, will share insights into the colorful soft corals inhabiting Enoshima's waters. He will also discuss "Eco-Diving" initiatives, which combine diving enjoyment with seafloor waste collection. The session is limited to 30 participants and requires prior reservation.
