Matsuzakaya Shizuoka will hold the 'Aki Yashiro Art Exhibition' at the grand event hall on the 8th floor of the main building from June 10 (Wed) to June 22 (Tue).

Aki Yashiro was beloved by many as a national singer. Although she passed away on December 30, 2023, at the age of 73, she was also highly acclaimed both domestically and internationally as a painter for her delicate touch and realistic expression.

This exhibition focuses on her other face—that of 'Painter Aki Yashiro'—distinct from her persona as a singer, and introduces the trajectory of her creations.

Aki Yashiro had deep ties to Shizuoka Prefecture; she studied under painter Motoharu Ichikawa, who has held solo exhibitions at Matsuzakaya Shizuoka, and there is a 'Yashiro Chaya' in Yaizu City associated with her. This exhibition is a special event unique to Shizuoka, held within that connection to the region.

The display includes a diverse range of works, such as those depicting Mount Fuji, nature, and animals, as well as her final works, unreleased pieces, and self-portraits. Visitors can three-dimensionally experience the artistic world of Aki Yashiro through displays of costumes that served as motifs and a recreation of her production studio.

Please take this opportunity to view the many thoughts that Aki Yashiro poured onto her canvas.

Additionally, the venue will exhibit paintings that were selected for the prestigious French exhibition 'Le Salon' and her final work, 'Akogare' (Longing), which was submitted posthumously.
