[Key Lecture Contents]

The war in Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz are causing the largest energy crisis in the post-war era for Japan and Asia. Japan relies on the Middle East for most of its oil, much of which passes through this strait, making the impact of supply disruption extremely significant. This lecture will analyze the future of resource supply based on various war scenarios and examine the ripple effects on the oil, LNG, and coal markets, as well as the Asian economy. Furthermore, after reviewing data on climate change and decarbonization policies, it will clarify the problems with Japan's energy policy, which has prioritized decarbonization, and state that realistic policy shifts centered on energy security are urgently needed, including diversification of supply sources, restarting nuclear power plants, and utilizing coal.

1. Impact of the Strait of Hormuz Blockade on Global and Asian Energy Supply

2. Japan's Middle East Dependence Structure and Specific Bottlenecks during Supply Disruption

3. Responses of Asian Countries and Ripple Effects on Japan's Manufacturing Supply Chains

4. The Truth and Lies about Climate Change and Decarbonization as Told by Data

5. Constraints Imposed by Decarbonization Policies and Emissions Trading Schemes on Energy Security
