Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium will hold a special exhibition titled 'Forest of Fireflies' from June 12 (Fri) to July 12 (Sun), 2026.

The exhibition features Genji fireflies and Heike fireflies, which the aquarium's staff have spent a year breeding and raising. Visitors can enjoy the gentle light of the fireflies fluttering inside a darkened special exhibition area. The aquarium has been breeding fireflies since 2019, making this the 8th iteration of the event.

In addition to the display, explanatory panels detailing firefly ecology and behind-the-scenes stories of their care will be provided. During the period, a 'Limited Time Behind-the-Scenes Tour: Firefly Special Commentary' will be conducted (For ages 4 and up, 500 yen per person, approx. 20 minutes, 15 person capacity).

Furthermore, on July 4, 2026 (Sat), a one-night-only event, 'Firefly Night Aquarium,' will be held (18:00–20:30). The event allows visitors to observe fireflies in the special atmosphere of the dimmed nighttime aquarium, with yukata wear being encouraged.
