AoharuNEXT Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo City, Tokyo; CEO: Rio Moriyama) announced on April 12, 2026, the launch of FocusRay Extension (pronounced: FocusRay Extension), an eye-tracking device for VRSNS platforms compatible with various prescription lenses. Today, the company announces it will support eyeglasses—an industry-first achievement* for standalone, add-on eye-tracking devices for VR headsets.

(*Based on company research at time of announcement)

Following the initial announcement, the company received numerous inquiries regarding eyeglass compatibility. Initially, the development team concluded that supporting eyeglasses would be technically challenging, leading the company to recommend users transition to vision-corrective lenses.

However, further development has confirmed that eyeglass support is now feasible, and the company officially announces full compatibility.

1. Eyeglass Compatibility of FocusRay Extension

FocusRay Extension adopts a novel magnetic attachment system, differing from previous models, enabling compatibility with vision-corrective lenses. (The camera-equipped arms extend and retract horizontally, supporting multiple devices.)

To use with eyeglasses, insert the arms inside your glasses frame and hook the main unit onto the nose bridge, utilizing magnetic attachment for a secure fit. This allows for high-quality eye-tracking experiences without compromise, even with eyeglasses.

Additional fixation components have been added to ensure stable attachment when using eyeglasses.

*Patent pending: Application Numbers P2026-061377 and P2026-132546

Eyeglass compatibility is subject to the following limitations:

- Lens thickness must be 5mm or less (thicker lenses may prevent proper installation) - Vertical frame height must be 5cm or less - Horizontal frame width must be 14.5cm or less - Temple (arm) thickness must be 3mm or less in diameter (or 4mm or less if flat and parallel to the wearer) - Nose pads must be either separate or integrated, protruding at least 6mm toward the wearer (glasses without nose pads are incompatible) - Frame shape must not be special (e.g., star, heart, square, etc.) - Must fit within the VR headset enclosure

All eyeglasses meeting the above criteria are compatible.

Customers who have already purchased FocusRay Extension can use it with eyeglasses without any modifications.

2. About FocusRay Extension

FocusRay Extension is an eye-tracking device for VRSNS platforms, composed of a compact camera module and a core module.

By adopting a unique magnetic attachment system*, users wearing prescription lenses attached to VR headset lenses or those using eyeglasses can both use the device seamlessly. (This is not a lens-mounted fixation method.)

It can be used in combination with existing FocusRay models (AONXV-001-W / AONXV-001WR), as a standalone device, or integrated with third-party facial tracking devices.

However, please note that the "proximity sensor" on VR headsets—which detects removal and automatically enters sleep mode—will no longer function. Please acknowledge this before purchase.

*Patent pending: Application Numbers P2026-061377 and P2026-132546

The core module, which houses the processing board and battery, features one USB Type-C port capable of power delivery. For example, connecting a FocusRay device here leverages the FocusRay Extension’s large-capacity battery (2000mAh) to extend continuous operation time.

Additionally, two USB Type-C ports support both data and power: one for input from HMDs, and another for output to audio devices.

This eliminates the need for USB splitters, allowing the single core module to manage multiple functions.

FocusRay Extension is compatible with the following headsets. Additional devices will be added as real-device testing is completed.

For users with multiple devices, purchasing a separate mounting base allows one main unit to be used across multiple headsets.

- Valve Index - Meta Quest series (Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3s/3) - PICO 4/Ultra - HTC VIVE - HTC VIVE Pro 2 - Pimax Crystal Light

Supported platforms include VRChat, Resonite, and ChilloutVR—platforms where the software is compatible.

Smooth facial tracking is supported using "Baballonia," developed by the open-source facial and eye-tracking project "Project Babble."
