About Barbour

Founded in 1894 by John Barbour in the port town of South Shields in Northeast England.

It began by providing waterproof outerwear for dockworkers working in the harsh climate facing the North Sea. Barbour's collections, synonymous with British country wear, are now widely developed as a fashion-forward lifestyle brand.

Passed down through the Barbour family for five generations, Barbour is sold in over 55 countries worldwide, including Germany, Italy, Spain, France, the United States, and Japan.

In 2020, Barbour launched "Wax for Life."

In addition to rewaxing and repairs introduced in 1921, since 2019, as part of its sustainability activities, it has been an upcycling program where customers' unwanted wax jackets are collected, reborn without being discarded, cleaned, repaired, and rewaxed as needed, and resold. Sustainable activities are carried out where unique jackets are passed on to new owners.

In May 2024, Margaret Barbour, the current fifth-generation chairman, was awarded a Royal Warrant from the British Royal Family for the manufacturing of outerwear, footwear, and accessories.
