BirdConnects Inc. (Headquarters: Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, CEO: Misako Murakami) has developed "Visual Support Shorts" as an independence support tool for girls with developmental characteristics to manage their menstrual care on their own. Applications are now open for 500 monitors of these shorts, currently under development, starting June 2026. This project was launched with significant anticipation after achieving approximately 140% of its crowdfunding goal.

Purpose of Crowdfunding

The crowdfunding campaign, held from April to May, aimed to raise awareness about individuals needing support and to develop a product incorporating feedback from those who need these shorts by providing monitor items free of charge. We successfully concluded the campaign, receiving support equivalent to approximately 140% of our target amount of 600,000 yen. This generous support will be fully utilized for the manufacturing costs and shipping of the monitor items.

Background: The Barrier to "Independence" in Menstrual Care

A survey conducted in fiscal year 2025 revealed that approximately 60% of girls with developmental challenges experience difficulty in "properly placing sanitary pads" during menstrual care. Traditional shorts make it difficult to ascertain the correct placement, and the practice of learning independent menstrual care has become a significant burden not only for the individuals themselves but also for their long-term caregivers (primarily mothers).

Product Features: Visual Support Clearly Indicates the "Right Spot"

This product was born from the desire to visually solve the problem of "not knowing where to place sanitary pads," fostering a sense of "I did it myself!" in the user and reducing the burden and providing peace of mind for guardians. We aim to create an "environment" where guardians and caregivers of children with developmental challenges can joyfully celebrate their child's first menstruation.

▶▶▶ "See and Understand" Guide: The shorts feature a "guide" shaped like a sanitary pad, allowing users to place it in the "right spot" without hesitation.

▶▶▶ Secure Absorbent Material: The crotch area is made of a wide-coverage absorbent material. This provides peace of mind even with slight misalignment, on days with heavy flow, or during the "is it coming soon?" period before the first period, when used in conjunction with sanitary pads.
