Participating Companies in Establishment (Directors, Auditors, Secretariat)

Background of Participation in Establishment

In Japan, reducing clothing waste from households is a social issue, with the government setting a target of a 25% reduction by 2030 compared to fiscal year 2020. The Ministry of the Environment also highlights that prolonging the life of existing clothing through proper care and repair is one of the actions individuals can take.

Meanwhile, the repair industry, which is responsible for this, faces numerous structural challenges, including the dispersion of small businesses, labor shortages, and stagnation in skill inheritance. Despite being a socially necessary profession, the repair business is not fully recognized as an "industry," and there is a need to establish a common foundation supporting technology, quality, human resources, and systems.

BPLab has been working towards the realization of a circular economy by circulating discarded textile products as resources again through initiatives such as the textile collection and recycling platform "BIOLOGIC LOOP," the circular collection box for clothing and miscellaneous goods "R-LOOP" (a joint project with Bookoff), and the traceability and DPP-compliant system "Circular Navi."

Repair is the most accessible entry point for consumers to extend product lifespans without discarding them, and it is a crucial area for implementing a circular economy for textile circulation.

Through its participation in the establishment of JSRA, BPLab aims to support the creation of a circular model where repair, reuse, and recycling are seamlessly connected, thereby promoting the culture of "repairing and continuing to use" and contributing to the realization of sustainable living and a circular society.

JSRA's Vision and Mission

JSRA's vision is "To carry the culture of repairing and continuing to use into the future. To make repair a proud industry for society."

By establishing a foundation for technology, human resources, quality, and systems, JSRA will contribute to sustainable living and the realization of a circular society through the promotion of the repair and reform industry.

Key Functions of the Association: Four Pillars

JSRA's values are "Polish. Nurture. Connect. Expand." By establishing four foundational pillars – technology, human resources, systems, and culture – JSRA will implement the practice of "repairing and continuing to use" in society.

Message from the Representative

We believe that "repairing and continuing to use" clothing, shoes, and bags is vital infrastructure for maximizing the long-term use of resources within society. BPLab has been engaged in initiatives such as the collection, recycling, and re-manufacturing of textile products, the construction of circular schemes, and the visualization of traceability.

Moving forward, as part of the JSRA secretariat, we will connect repair and alteration businesses with companies, local governments, educational institutions, and consumers, contributing to the creation of a foundation where technology and quality are appropriately evaluated. We aim to expand the societal option of "repairing before discarding" and create a sustainable circular model where repair, reuse, and recycling are interconnected."
