Making Shiga a 'Passport-Free Study Abroad Destination': International Exchange Camp 'dive CAMP +' to be Held in August

dive in LIFE, a company based in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, that specializes in child-care oriented outdoor experiences, will hold an international exchange outdoor program titled 'dive CAMP +' for guests staying at the outdoor leisure facility Green Park Santo (operated by Okuibuki Kanko Co., Ltd.) in Maibara City, Shiga. The event will take place on August 8 (Sat) and 9 (Sun), 2026.

Making Shiga a Place for International Exchange Without a Passport Japan's passport ownership rate is low at approximately 17%, and traveling abroad has become increasingly difficult due to the weak yen. With the desire to make the nature-rich Shiga Prefecture a place for international exchange without requiring a passport, this program was planned. Peers from Hong Kong and Taiwan are scheduled to participate. English skills are not required; the focus is on the desire to make friends. Through hands-on activities like catching fish and campfires, children will foster their independence and ability to communicate feelings.

Background: Balancing 'Parents' Relaxation' and 'Children's Challenges' Born from the need to satisfy both parents' desire for a relaxing family trip and children's need to challenge themselves in nature, this program serves as a daycare option exclusively for facility guests. While parents enjoy their time without worrying about the clock, professionals known as 'dive staff' will look after their children. Bilingual staff will provide support for the first steps of international exchange. Coordination for families from Hong Kong and Taiwan is supported by Edubridge.

Three Features of 'dive CAMP +'

1. Liberation! 'Unstructured Time' for Parents Children will be looked after from 11:00 to 20:00 on the first day and from 7:00 to 10:00 on the second day.

2. No English Skill Required. Reliable Bilingual Support Staff will gently bridge language barriers to guide children toward the success of being understood.

3. Touching Campfire Where Parents Can Join Parents are welcome to visit and join the campfire from 19:00 on the first day.
